I've always been wary of bees; perhaps it started when I was stung by eight in one day as a child. My caution is tempered, however, by a great love for bees' creations -- honey and the honeycomb. Maybe that's why I so love this fabric, with its intricately-drawn pattern inspired by the honeybees' sweet creation. The creamy off-white sateen's subtle but substantial texture blends perfectly with the pinkish browns and dark greys of the printed pattern.

Built by honeybees to store honey and pollen, honeycombs are glorious masses of hexagonal wax cells. (Why hexagonal? That's an excellent question for which wikipedia has an answer: "There are two possible explanations for the reason that honeycomb is composed of hexagons, rather than any other shape. One, given by Jan Brozek, is that the hexagon tiles the plane with minimal surface area. Thus a hexagonal structure uses the least material to create a lattice of cells within a given volume. Another, given by D'Arcy Wentworth Thompson, is that the shape simply results from the process of individual bees putting cells together: somewhat analogous to the boundary shapes created in a field of soap bubbles. In support of this he notes that queen cells, which are constructed singly, are irregular and lumpy with no apparent attempt at efficiency.")

A subtle, nature-inspired palette invites these fabrics into a variety of settings -- as home decor accents, clothing, or fashion accessories, we're convinced you'll love the tela collection. Designed as hand-drawn repeating patterns originally rendered in ink and gouache, these intricate drawings are professionally printed on sustainable fabrics to create unique works of art.

With a printed width of 53.5 inches, the fabric is 59" wide. At 7 ounces per linear yard, the fabric itself is approximately 4.2 ounces per square yard. It is made of organic cotton, sustainably grown and woven in India and printed in the US.

This pattern is also available in hemp/organic cotton, for more coordinating possibilities. Combine the two in your creative repertoire to create such masterful creations as sateen curtains with a hemp/organic cotton-upholstered lounge chair, or sateen napkins on heavier placemats.
