Organic cotton ribbon is so exciting, and colored organic ribbon is even more so! It's just perfect for all your crafting and gift-giving needs, and we couldn't be happier to offer it to you.

At just less than one inch wide, the ribbon is a great width for various crafts as well as for obvious sewing and gift-giving projects. When making simple gift bags, sew a perpendicular ribbon into the side seam and you'll have a tie built in without having to make a drawstring casing. Combine with colors of our Thinner Heirloom Batik Ribbon for great effects -- try a line of Daffodil atop a Scarlet Daylily background, for example. It's just gorgeous, especially on a Natural Hemp Silk Charmeuse wrapper as I show here! (It only took a scrap of the charmeuse and small pieces of the ribbon to elevate that used CD into a very, very special gift, too...) Add stripes to your car seat cover or your apron, emphasize the strap of a bag, decorate your Christmas tree or wrap Easter candy, tie a big floppy bow at the end of your braids ... so many options, and I haven't even mentioned its uses in fancy giftwrap!

Hand-batiked in North Carolina by the wonderful folks at Fiberactive Organics, this glorious ribbon is perfect for so many projects. You'll appreciate the hand-dyed qualities; just as in any fine batiked item, you can see areas with more and less dye, etc. It gives a wonderful, heirloom quality to any project. (The bottom picture shows some more heavily-contrasting ribbon bits -- the amount of color contrast can vary greatly within each piece.)

The modified batik process is performed using low-immersion dyes and the water is reclaimed. No wax is used in this process. Our friends at Fiberactive say "One mission of Fiberactive is to provide a market for organic cotton in order to promote organic farming techniques throughout the world and especially here in the US. Our second mission is to enable artists to make a good living from their craft and keep the traditional role of artists in our society alive and well."

The ribbon is available in six dyed colors, Soft White, and Natural); the colors are:

  • blackberry (a deep graybluecharcoal that was previously called cactus after the aeonium cactus)
  • scarlet daylily (a nice dark red)
  • daffodil (cheerful yellow)
  • chocolate cosmos (chocolate brown, and now I want to grow the flower!)
  • cornflower (a bright light blue)
  • carnation (a bright pink)
  • straw (a very light yellow)
  • eggplant (deep purple)
  • peapod (a fresh spring green, the color of the tastiest fresh peas)
  • hydrangea (a turquoise blue, the color of the glorious blue hydrangea)

Requesting a swatch comes with small pieces of all ten colors; you don't need to specify which one you're interested in. Because the ribbon has been washed in the dyeing process, it is softer than the crisper, undyed ribbon.

The ribbon's made in the US. As we said above, it is dyed in the US using very eco-friendly dyeing processes.
